Quantitative Seismic Interpretation for Carbon Storage Assessment in Kuwait

Presenter: Al-Awadhi, Muneera Fahad Ahmed, Senior Geophysicist at Kuwait Oil Company

Climate change remains one of the most critical global challenges, driven by rising concentrations of greenhouse gases particularly carbon dioxide (CO₂)from human activities.

As part of the worldwide transition toward low-carbon energy systems, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has announced ambitious climate goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. A central pillar of this strategy is carbon capture and storage (CCS), which focuses on capturing CO₂ emissionsfrompower generation, refining, and petrochemical facilities and permanently storing them in suitable subsurface formations.

This webinar presents an early-stage subsurface screening approach that leverages seismic data and quantitative interpretation techniques to evaluate open saline aquifers and identify potential reservoir candidates for CO₂ storage, supporting informed decision-making before more detailed site-specific studies.
