Direct Hydrocarbon Identification Using AVO, AVF and AVPF Analysis
February 10-11, 2027
Course Overview
Many amplitude anomalies are not fluid-related. This course combines AVO, amplitude variation with frequency (AVF) and joint phase and frequency (AVPF) analysis to separate true hydrocarbon indicators from lithology and tuning effects, supported by the gather conditioning needed for reliable amplitudes.
What you will gain
- Reduced exploration risk through better discrimination of true DHIs from false positives
- A rock-physics-based understanding of AVO classes, modelling and fluid-sensitive attributes such as Lambda-Mu-Rho and Fluid-Mu-Rho.
- Practical use of spectral decomposition to detect frequency-dependent attenuation and tuning
- Awareness of data conditioning issues and common pitfalls that lead to misinterpretation
- Confidence to risk prospects and support drilling decisions with defensible evidence
