Advanced Seismic Reservoir Characterization with HampsonRussell

MAY 13-17, 2024.
North America (United States and Canada)

Learning Objectives:

This course covers the theory and practical use of WellGen, RockSI, GeoSI, and LithoSI, comprising a set of interactive programs that are fully linked into the HampsonRussell suite.

Content:

  • RockSI and LithoSI:
    • RockSI Presents an introduction to the practical use of RockSI, an interactive rock physics program from HampsonRussell, as well as an overview of rock physics theory. Teaches the user how to apply RockSI using a real North Sea oil sand example.
    • LithoSI Discusses how to analyze combinations of inversion results (typical pre-stack inversion results) to describe classes or lithologies. The outputs are litho-probability cubes, transforming inversion results into geological properties. Teaches how to design complex multi-variate probability distribution functions to ensure proper classification of lithologies and accurate definition of litho-probabilities.
  • WellGen: Presents an introduction to the practical use of deep neural networks (DNNs) to predict elastic and rock properties as well as an overview of relevant machine learning theory. Teaches the user how to apply WellGen and Emerge using a real Gulf of Mexico gas sand example.
  • GeoSI: Overview of stochastic inversion program from HampsonRussell as well as relevant inversion theory. Teaches the user how to apply GeoSI using a real North Sea oil sand example.
