HampsonRussell Fundamental of Seismic Quantitative Interpretation (QI)
LATINAMERICA
September 17- 19
The schedule will be based according to the following time zones:
- Colombia (COL)
- Mexico (MEX)
- Brazil (BRA)
Course overview:
This course is an introduction to the Seismic Quantitative Interpretation (QI), including an introduction to the
theory of AVO, and seismic inversion.
Content:
- An overview of rock physics covering the principles of rock physics in porous rock and the principle of BiotGassmann equations and its applications.
• The convolutional model, wavelet tunning, and seismic net pay analysis.
• AVO Theory: Zoeppritz equations, Aki-Richards and Shuey's approximation, elastic wave modelling, and
impact of anisotropy. Also, seismic gather conditioning theory and benefits.
• Seismic Inversion theory: AVO inversion, simultaneous inversion, coloured inversion and Extended Elastic
Impedance (EEI) – real data example is introduced.
• Stochastic seismic inversion: discuss stochastic inversion, and how it compares with deterministic inversion.
In addition, we will discuss different stochastic methods such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation, Bayesian
inversion and others.
• Case studies discussing data integration for enhanced Reservoir characterization
Duration: 3 days
Software used: HampsonRussell AVO and Strata
Course Format: Instructor-led, workflow-based, classroom or virtual training
Prerequisites: Experience with HampsonRussell Software is NOT a prerequisite for this workshop, although students will
become familiar with the functionality through attendance.
Who should attend: Geophysicists, geologists, engineers, and technical staff who want to understand the theory and learn how to
apply these increasingly critical techniques.
