CNN-Driven Quantitative Interpretation of Deep Geothermal Reservoirs: Case Study of the Paris Basin

March 11, 2026 | 3:00 PM CET

Online
Speaker: Pwavodi Joshua, Research Engineer in Geosciences, Petrotrophysicist

This webinar presents results from the GEOSCAN campaign, led by ADEME, the Île de France Region and BRGM, focused on evaluating deep geothermal potential in the western and southern Paris Basin. The study combines reprocessed and newly acquired seismic data with well logs and petrophysical measurements, using Convolutional Neural Networks to predict key reservoir properties directly along seismic lines.

CNN driven interpretation delivers high resolution porosity and clay volume estimates, improving the understanding of reservoir architecture, structural controls and lateral variability. The results demonstrate how data driven seismic interpretation can significantly strengthen geothermal reservoir characterization and support robust resource assessment.
